Planning the Mise-en-scene

Location and iconography- The location for our thriller film will be Wills house in Buckhurst hill we are goin to use his front room for filming. The iconography will be the Wigi board this is when the girls use it within the room of his house. This is conventional to a thriller film because it is different and things start to go wrong when they use the ouiji board. Also when the girls are tied up to the chairs by tayler and when he has the knife in his hand and is about to kill them they are also examples of iconography.

Lighting and colour- The lighting in the room starts off on when the girls are talking on the sofa however, the lighting flickers on and off when they start to play the wigi board. In one instance the whole room goes dark and when the light comes back on that is when they have been caught by Tayler and tied up to chairs. This is conventional to a thriller film because when things start to go wrong the lighting gets darker within the room.

Costumes- the girls will all be wearing track suits and Tayler will be wearing all black.  We have chosen to use dark clothes for the attacker because we think this is conventional to a thriller film, and we will use light colours for the victims because they will be wearin light coloured tracksuits to show there innocence, for example in the film prom night the killer is wearing black clothes and the victim is wearing a light coloured dress.

Positioning and characters- the girls will be on the sofa talking before they decide to do a ouiji board and that is when they decide to do it on the floor. The sofa is placed in the middle of the room by the stairs. Tayler follows Katie to where she is going because this is how he found where the girls would be. When the movie is coming to a close Tayler comes into the house from outside and he appears behind the girls only the camera man can see him outside the window because that is too the back off the girls and it is dark outside. The window is behind the girls all the time. When tayler ties them up the chairs are placed in the middle of the room and they are back to back.

Facial expressions and body language- the girls are all calm and unfased of the situation there in until they decide to do the Wigi board this leaves them on edge and nervous of what is about to come of doin the Wigi board. This is conventional to a thriller film because the girls start off calm and unfased but there reactions dramatically change when the ouiji board starts to go wrong. The girls are excited as well because they want to see what happens. The girls facial expressions and body language change dramatically when they start playing the Wigi board the lights turn off and on and they are starting to think someone else is there with them. They are completely scared when all this is going on and they are becoming paranoid of every little sound that is made. Taylor's facial expressions do not change throughout because he is calm and collective and knows what his job is.

  1. You have made a start in planning your mise-en-scene for your thriller film. You have included the correct points, which shows some planning skills.

To make this post more detailed you need to consider how this is conventional to a thriller in more detail. Also aim to include images to support the points that you are making too.
